The challenge is unveiled this week for participating schools, including De Warenne Academy, Denaby Main Primary School, Balby Street Junior & Infant School, Station Road Primary School, St Alban's Catholic Primary School and Pennine View School, which caters for pupils with special needs.
Commenting on this year's project, Lynda Povey, general manager, The Topping Pie Company said: "We are delighted to be backing this great business and education initiative again. We always enjoy working with the school children and this year we decided to set them an Olympic Challenge. As food and sport go hand in hand we are challenging pupils to create a patriotic pie so that armchair fans can feast on a British staple whilst cheering on our medal hopes."
"Unfortunately we can't all travel to watch the Olympic Games in London, but we can still have fun and join in the spirit from the comfort of our home as armchair spectators, so we need Olympic snacks to fuel our enthusiasm and get behind our athletes!" continued Lynda Povey.
The participating school children will be asked to create an Olympic themed Pie, including making their own pastry from scratch. They will also have to name the product and provide the judging panel with marketing materials to support their entry.
Business & Education South Yorkshire is the bridge that offers all young people in education the opportunity to experience the world of work before they make that leap from schooling to the workplace. The design and technology initiative, which aims to bring business and education together, challenges school children with a real life business project. Final judging of the Topping's Olympic Pie Challenge will take place on July 4 2011.
Mary Milburn of Business & Education South Yorkshire said: "The Topping Pie Company has been a great partner in our Schools Technology Challenge initiative and we are delighted that they are supporting us for the fifth consecutive year. We know that the school children taking part have thoroughly enjoyed tackling the challenges set by Toppings and I am sure they will be very excited by this year's Olympic competition."
